No to Labour's compulsory ID says Lib Dem Kevin Wilkins
Keir Starmer says everyone in the UK will be required to have mandatory digital ID.
That’s not the kind of country we want to be – one where people are forced to turn over their private data just to go about their daily lives.
People shouldn’t be turned into criminals just because they can’t have a digital ID, or choose not to. This will be especially worrying to millions of older people, people living in poverty and disabled people – who are more likely to be digitally excluded.
Liberal Democrats have always stood up for people’s freedom and privacy, defending civil liberties against government overreach.
“We fought Labour’s plans for ID cards more than a decade ago, and we won. We will fight tooth and nail to oppose these plans too,” said Lib Dem campaigner Kevin Wilkins.
“These plans for compulsory digital ID won't help people in Monmouthshire and Torfaen.
"Imagine the danger of Nigel Farage becoming Prime Minister and being able to mess up people's lives controlling the ID database.”
